County Commissioners

Boone County has 3 County Commissioners with each representing one of 3 districts. District 1 encompasses these townships: Eagle (2-4, 7-10, 12,13, 16-20).

Voters in Boone County can vote for all County Commissioner candidates no matter in which district they live.

The Role of a County Commissioner

These are just a few of the responsibilities of a county commissioner:

Infrastructure

Supervise the construction and maintenance of county roads and bridges.

Legislative & Policy

Establish county ordinances, set minimum housing standards, and manage solid waste district strategies.

Elections

Administer election functions, such as establishing precincts and providing polling places.

Administrative and Financial

Audit and authorize claims against the county, receive bids, and authorize contracts. Preparing the annual budget that they have direct control over.

Personnel & Appointments

Implement employee policies and make appointments to various boards, commissions, and committees.

Property Management

Supervise and maintain all county property, including the courthouse, annex, and jail.
